Marvel Studios now has the rights to the X-Men movie franchise back, or at least Disney does after its acquisition of Fox, but these means that Marvel can make X-Men movies again, and there are now rumours that Patrick Stewart could be returning as Professor X, a.k.a. Charles Xavier, in the MCU.
Patrick Stewart was talking to Digital Spy about Charles Xavier and he revealed that he’s been having discussions with Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ President, about Professor X.
He told the British media outlet that they chatted about the character during their talk, and that has me thinking that Marvel Studios can’t think of anyone better than Patrick Stewart to play Xavier in the MCU, and they’d be right.
Here’s what Stewart said about his meeting with Kevin Feige:
I met with Kevin Feige a couple of months ago and we had long, long conversations. And there have been moves and suggestions, which include Charles Xavier.

This really has me thinking that these moves and suggestions that Stewart spoke of mean Marvel Studios trying to find a way to bring Stewart into the MCU as Xavier.
We already know thanks to Doctor Strange 2’s title, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, that they’re going to be exploring the multiverse in the MCU.
Perhaps that’s the way they might be able to bring the likes of Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool into the MCU.
With Michael Keaton’s Vulture having turned up in Morbius‘ trailer, it certainly seems as though Marvel Studios is thinking of new ways to expand the MCU.
That said, during the same conversation with Digital Spy, Stewart did sort of say that he was done with the role as far as he’s concerned, and he stated that Logan was a definite end for his version of the character.
Stewart seems to be toying with us

If we had not made Logan, then yes, I would probably be ready to get into that wheelchair one more time and be Charles Xavier…but Logan changed all that. Here’s a tiny anecdote. The first time that Hugh and I saw the film in public was at the Berlin Film Festival, which is where the movie premiered. Shortly after Xavier’s death scene, I found myself getting very emotional but I had to keep a hold of myself because we were sitting in the middle of this cinema.
We were moved by the story. We were moved by one another. We were moved by the movie. But we also both made the decision that we were saying goodbye to our characters as well. In that sense, it was not just the deaths of those two men in the franchise, but it was also goodbye to our part in them as well.
Despite Stewart’s words, I can’t help but think everybody’s got a price.
What do you think? Would you like to see Patrick Stewart return as Professor X. a.k.a. Charles Xavier?
