Chris Hemsworth is easily one of the most interesting and devoted actors working in Hollywood today. You may think of him as that Australian guy with very big muscles. However, he’s a lot more than that. He’s actually a very good actor, and I think he’s also a great producer.
Just look at what he did with the Thor movies. Before Thor: Ragnarok, the God of Thunder was pretty much an afterthought over at Marvel Studios. Yes, the films were doing OK at the box office, but they weren’t coming anywhere close to their other MCU movies, and Thor: The Dark World is widely considered to be one of the worst Marvel movies ever made.
When I say ‘Marvel’, I mean the MCU by the way. There are plenty of other Marvel movies made over the years that are much worse than The Dark World. Anyway, prior to the release of Thor: Love And Thunder, people were really excited about the movie. I was one of those people. I really couldn’t wait to watch the new MCU picture.
Is Chris Hemsworth to blame for Thor: Love And Thunder…?

It had Chris Hemsworth back as Thor. Natalie Portman was playing Lady Thor. Taika Waititi was back in the director’s chair, and this time around, he had also written the film’s script, which sounded brilliant. However, when the movie came out, I think we can all agree that it wasn’t what we were expecting. Many people blamed Taika for what was frankly a mess of a movie. However, Hemsworth stated in a recent interview with Vanity Fair that he was to blame.
Here’s what Hemsworth had to say on the matter:
I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself. I didn’t stick the landing.
The actor then went on to admit to the publication that he grew frustrated with the character while playing him in four standalone Marvel films and additional Avengers movies. Here’s what he had to say:
Sometimes I felt like a security guard for the team. I would read everyone else’s lines, and go, ‘Oh, they got way cooler stuff. They’re having more fun. What’s my character doing?’ It was always about, ‘You’ve got the wig on. You’ve got the muscles. You’ve got the costume. Where’s the lighting?’ Yeah, I’m part of this big thing, but I’m probably pretty replaceable.

You know what, it’s good to hear Chris Hemsworth take the blame for Thor: Love And Thunder. In the end, that movie was pretty much a disaster from start to finish. It pretty much ruined Waititi’s reputation and the hot streak he was on. However, Hemsworth here is saying that he was the reason why the movie ended up the way it did.
Personally, I’m not so sure about that. I think that the movie was doomed from the start. It’s great to have the likes of Waititi and Hemsworth riffing and doing whatever they wanted. However, they also need to be reined in a little bit, and I think that Marvel Studios didn’t do that to begin with, and when they saw what was going on, they panicked.
Thor: Love And Thunder is a clear example of both studio interference and giving creatives too much power and control. You need to have a balance between the two. That’s where really good movies are made. I think that was the case with Thor: Ragnarok. That movie was written by a third party. Hemsworth and Waititi didn’t have anything to do with the script. Yes, they did some experimenting on set and added some lines of their own, but the overall structure of the movie’s story had already been decided.
