2008’s The Incredible Hulk fans are happy to learn that Betty Ross actress Liv Tyler will return to the MCU in the upcoming movie Captain America 4.  For earlier fans, two months after Iron Man starring Robert Downey, Jr. came to theatres, Edward Norton played the Hulk.

The movie co-starred Liv Tyler as Bruce Banner’s love interest, Betty Ross. The 2008 movie was actually Marvel’s first for the character after Universal’s 2003 Hulk, which in turn starred Eric Bana as Bruce Banner and Jennifer Connelly as Betty Ross.

Critics of the 2008 movie described it as ‘a reboot and a sequel’. Or, for some, a more apt description is ‘not exactly a sequel but not exactly a reboot’. It was the first movie to have Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky and the late William Hurt as General ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, Betty’s father.

It seems that the return of Tyler to reprise her role as Dr. Ross is inevitable, as Roth has returned to his character Emil Blonsky in last year’s She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. Meanwhile, before Hurt lost his battle with cancer, the actor has reappeared several times as the formidable general in the MCU. From Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame to finally in Black Widow. In the future, Harrison Ford will take over the character in the MCU.

The Hollywood Reporter just posted that the actress Liv Tyler will appear in Captain America 4. True enough, photos of the actress on set are attached to a tweet from @thunderbnews.

In what appears to be a funeral scene, Liv Tyler is clad in an all-black dress coat ensemble with conservatively styled hair and make-up. Details are not yet available as to describing the scene in the photo. Neither is there any information as to how much of an impact Betty Ross would present in the Captain America 4 movie.

In other production photos circulating online, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson is in his own black gala uniform but notably has his left arm in a sling. While Wilson is the new Cap, he is no super soldier. We wonder if Dr. Ross is in the movie to show scientific research on some healing formula.

While Captain America: New World Order will centre on Wilson, Dr. Ross’ presence will also entail a focus on gamma research and may even feature the Hulk in the movie. The particular scene with the snapshots, of course, could happen at any point in the film or maybe it’ll get edited. Who knows?

What’s obvious is the emphasis that Wilson is not invincible as he performs his duty as Captain America.

Another question is, whose funeral are they attending? It isn’t likely that they will be killing off General “Thunderbolt” Ross. For one thing, they won’t be casing the character to Ford if only they mean to end the character’s MCU life. Second, there is literally an upcoming movie called Thunderbolts,

We somehow think this could be the funeral of Steve Rogers or perhaps a tribute event for him or men and women of the uniform lost from the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney Plus live-action series.

There could also be a chance of featuring Ruffalo’s Hulk and seeing if he has some background with her in this universe. It is still possible to pursue their romantic angle or perhaps develop a Red She-Hulk as portrayed by Liv Tyler. That would be amazing, considering the universe already has a male and a female Hulk as well as a teenage Hulk possibly going through their teenage years.

Joining them as cast in Captain America 4 are Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Danny Ramirez as the new Falcon, returning as Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Joaquin Torres. Perhaps just as important as Tyler’s return is Tim Blake Nelson, also filming in the movie for his role as Samuel Sterns, who eventually becomes The Leader. Julius Ona of The Cloverfield Paradox is directing the movie.

With a target release day officially announced to be May 3, 2024, they have a little over a year left to complete the production. Many are keen on seeing what’s next for the Captain America franchise, and hopefully, Captain America 4 strengthens Mackie’s footing as the character in the MCU.
