Can you imagine Brooklyn Nine-Nine without Andy Samberg as Detective Jake Peralta? No, neither can I.
However, there was a possibility that he wasn’t going to the show, and it all had to do with his experience of being on Saturday Night Live.
In 2012, Samberg announced that he was leaving the popular American sketch show after having been on it for a lengthy seven years.
He later revealed that it was a wonderful yet gruelling seven years, which is why he decided to leave, and he wasn’t actually going to do TV anymore.
Samberg wanted to focus on his movie career and just have a more relaxed schedule in general to spend time with his friends and family after spending the past seven years working on SNL.
There have been reports (check out Screen Rant’s article on this) that because of his experiences on SNL he was thinking of passing on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

According to Screen Rant, the actor was genuinely thinking of passing on the lead role in the FOX TV show because it didn’t match the career trajectory he had envisioned.
However, he was so impressed by what the show’s creators, Michael Shur and Dan Goor did on Parks And Recreation that he decided to accept the role, and all was right with the world.
He was also apparently very impressed with what Parks And Recreation did for Amy Poehler’s career after her time on SNL.
Samberg told The Wrap back in 2013 that the leading role on Brooklyn Nine-Nine “was too good to pass up.”
It took Samberg a few days to decide, but he did eventually say yes to the role, and now we have one of the funniest shows on television.

Samberg has gone on to receive a Golden Globe nomination for his work in Brooklyn Nine-Nine which remains to this day his only nomination.
Brooklyn Nine-None Season 1 also won Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy that yeat.
He’s also been able to continue his work with the Lonely Island, having made the movies, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping and The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience whilst starring on the show.
Hopefully, his time as Jake Peralta won’t come to an end any time soon.
