Bridgerton Season 1 has been doing pretty well on Netflix ever since it dropped not long ago. People have really been loving the new take on a British period drama, but does this mean that they’ll be a Bridgerton Season 2? I’ve noticed that some people have been wondering whether Netflix will make Bridgerton Season 2 or not.
One of the reasons why people aren’t 100% sure that Bridgerton Season 2 will happen is because there has been some criticism laid at the show for some of the casting decisions. Namely, the decision to cast Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte. Now, full disclosure, I have not read the books this series is based on.
Bridgerton was created by Chris Van Dusen and is produced by Shonda Rhimes, who was the showrunner—creator, head writer, and executive producer—of the television medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. Bridgerton is based on the books by Julia Quinn.
Will Bridgerton Season 2 happen? Has Netflix cancelled the show?

That said, I thought that the show was cast incredibly well and really is a breath of fresh air in the period drama genre. It’s witty and very modern, and I believe its popularity shows that people are very much ready for change in the genre, which has started to become pretty stale of late. As for whether Netflix will greenlight a Bridgerton Season 2, I’m almost 100% sure they will get Season 2 made as quickly as possible.
There are nine books in total, therefore there’s more than enough material to adapt for this new Netflix show. Therefore, I’m pretty certain that Netflix would have already given the greenlight to Season 2. However, they won’t reveal Bridgerton Season 2’s release date until the very last minute possible. That’s just how Netflix works.
Bridgerton Season 2 is almost a certainty

Before we get started on what could happen in the future of the show and when Bridgerton Season 2 could be released on Netflix, I think it’s always a good idea to go over the first season’s plot. So, here goes:
From Shondaland and Creator Chris Van Dusen, Bridgerton follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Hoping to follow in her parent’s footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne’s prospects initially seem to be unrivalled. But as her older brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown casts aspersions on Daphne. Enter the highly desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), committed bachelor and the catch of the season for the debutantes’ mamas. Despite proclaiming that they want nothing the other has to offer, their attraction is undeniable and sparks fly as they find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while navigating society’s expectations for their future.

Meanwhile, one of the stars of Bridgerton Season 1, Nicola Coughlan, has already opened up about whether Season 2 will get the greenlight from Netflix, telling Variety the following:
We all really hope [it will be renewed]. It’s a real joy to make and the response has been beyond our wildest dreams. But until the Netflix gods come down and bless us, we don’t know. If it goes the way the books go, logically Season 2 would be more about Anthony Bridgerton’s story and I’d love that because it would make the show so fresh and a totally different perspective. Anthony’s such a different character to Daphne.
She also added what could happen with her character, Penelope Featherington could be getting up to in Bridgerton Season 2:
The only things are things I’ve surmised myself. Surely she’d be quite rich, because the first Whistledown newsletter was free but then she starts charging, so it fascinates me to think she’s the only independently wealthy woman in the ton at the time. She’s making her own money. But it’s like, what is she doing with it? Where is it going? I also don’t know who’s taking over the Featherington estate. Does Colin go away? How long is he gone for? Eloise coming out in society, what would that mean?
Fingers crossed Netflix will get things moving pretty quickly on Bridgerton Season 2. Again, I’m pretty sure it’s happening. I would be shocked if Netflix opts not to renew the show which is quickly becoming one of the TV hits of 2020.
