Denis Villeneuve made one of the most incredible movies I’ve seen a while with Blade Runner 2049 and the Canadian filmmaker has recently revealed he would like to make another one.
I never thought there could ever be a sequel to Blade Runner which was actually any good, but Blade Runner 2049 was pretty darn good, and a lot of that was down to Denis Villeneuve.
The director was talking to Empire Magazine and he revealed during this interview that he’s interested in helming yet another Blade Runner movie.
It’s such an inspiring place, the Blade Runner world.
The problem I have is the word ‘sequel.’ I think cinema needs original stories.
But if you ask me if I’d like to revisit this universe in a different way, I can say yes. It would need to be a project on its own.
Something disconnected from both other movies.
A detective noir story set in the future… I wake up sometimes in the night dreaming about it.
It really does seem as though Villeneuve’s got a really good idea about where the Blade Runner franchise could go next.

If there were anybody I’d want to direct another Blade Runner movie it would be Villeneuve.
However, he’s going to be pretty busy directing the next Dune movies. The first Dune movie is going to be coming out later this year.
He’ll then be backing up that movie with a second one, if all goes to plan, so he has an awful lot on his plate already.
That said, it seems as though he wants to expand the Blade Runner world, which I think a lot of people, myself included, would really want to see.
The Blade Runner universe is huge and full of possibilities, and it sounds like Villeneuve is looking forward to getting back into it.
What do you think? Would you like to see Denis Villeneuve make another Blade Runner movie?
