This Birds of Prey movie sounds very interesting. It was a project which got underway after Margot Robbie fell in love with the character of Harley Quinn on the set of Suicide Squad and the comic books she’s part of.
The Birds of Prey comics are brilliant. You have to check them out if you haven’t. It’s not really surprising that Robbie was so attracted to them, and they definitely the foundations for a good movie.
In the comics, Black Canary and Barbara Gordon, who also known as Oracle, started a group of superheroines to save Gotham from catastrophic events, and the group expands to include the likes of Huntress, Gypsy and Big Barbara to name a few.
Harley Quinn was never part of the group in the comics, yet Robbie thought that the rather complicated character would do well in the group. She’d certainly be an interesting addition.
Cathy Yan will direct the DC film, which is officially called Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). I’ve got to say that I really love that title, and I hope the film will be as wacky as it suggests.

In this incredibly colourful poster, Harley Quinn has the phrase “Mind Over Mayhem” written in pink across her neck.
She’s also looking at several other characters who are flying in front of her face, a bit like cherubs.
The rest of the film’s cast includes Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Rosie Perez as Detective Renee Montoya, Ella Jay Basco as Batgirl Cassandra Cain, Ewan McGregor as the villainous Black Mask, and Chris Messina as the serial killer, Victor Zsasz.
The film has been described as an R-rated “girl-gang movie,” and it’s about time we saw something like this in the superhero movie genre.
Warner Bros. Pictures has also released the film’s synopsis, and it really does sound mad.
Four years after the events of Suicide Squad, Batman has disappeared, leaving Gotham City unprotected from crime, and Harley Quinn has left the Joker. When Cassandra Cain, a young girl, comes across a diamond belonging to crime lord Black Mask, Harley joins forces with Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to help protect her.
Margot Robbie will also be reprising her role as Harley Quinn in James Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad movie, which seems to be a soft reboot of David Ayer’s first film.
The Guardians of the Galaxy director announced that his follow-up to David Ayer’s 2016 film, Suicide Squad, will feature the likes of Robbie, Jai Courtney and Joel Kinnaman all returning for this reboot.
However, they’re not the only big names in this film. Among the names mentioned in Gunn’s post were Idris Elba, John Cena, Taika Waititi, Viola Davis, Nathan Fillion, Michael Rooker, and Queen of the South’s Alice Braga.

One notable absence was Will Smith who played Deadshot in the first film and kind of was the film’s main character. Jared Leto, who infamously played the Joker in the first Suicide Squad film, was also absent from this cast list.
Gunn accompanied the image with a rather simple caption which read: “Don’t get too attached.” It’s not exactly clear what this might mean, but I reckon it means that most of the characters these actors are playing might not stick around for too long.
Birds of Prey will be in cinemas on February 7th, 2020. Are you looking forward to seeing the film? Let us know in the comments below or on our Facebook or Instagram pages!
