Bill Murray has been hit with some very troubling harassment and bullying allegations. For many, Murray is something of a national treasure, not only in the US but also across the globe. He’s an icon in the film industry thanks to his decades of work in movies such as Caddyshack, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day. However, Bill Murray has been hit with serious harassment allegations.
The story broke via Puck, which alleges that the actor paid over $100k in a settlement with a female crew member on the set of Being Mortal, which Deadline reports was suspended back in April due to his behaviour. The allegation alleged that the 72-year-old actor straddled and kissed a younger woman on set, and the statement says she was “horrified” and “interpreted his actions as entirely sexual”.

A complaint was filed against Murray, but we’ve seen more allegations or descriptions of inappropriate behaviour arise. In April, Murray responded to the report with a chat on CNBC, stating, “I did something I thought was funny, and it wasn’t taken that way.” Murray then continued:
The company, the movie studio, wanted to do the right thing, so they wanted to check it all out, investigate it, and so they stopped the production. But as of now, we’re talking and we’re trying to make peace with each other.

In her autobiography, Dying of Politeness, Geena Davis stated that she was uncomfortable with multiple situations around Murray and his behaviour. From attempting to pull down the spaghetti strap on her dress on a chat show, to working with the actor on Quick Change in the 90s, whereby upon their first meeting, he insisted on using a massage machine on her back.
After many refusals, she relented so as not to make a scene, but apparently, he screamed at her on set at another time in front of 300 people. A growing list of actors with a range of confrontations from abusive behaviour, to inexcusable and threatening language to straight-up clashes with Bill Murray, include Seth Green, Lucy Liu, McG, Richard Dreyfuss and Laura Ziskin.
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens to Bill Murray moving forward. He’s set to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania. I’m wondering whether Marvel Studios might want to cut him out of the film, given all of these terrible allegations that are being made against the actor.
We’re going to have to wait and see what decision Marvel and Kevin Feige end up taking when it comes to Bill Murray’s upcoming appearance in the Marvel movie. It’ll be a shame because I was very excited to see Murray in the MCU, but his actions have to be punished. They’re very serious.
