It’s been revealed that Ben Wheatley has signed on to direct the sequel to The Meg, which I’m going to refer to as The Meg 2.
We got this news from Variety who reported that Wheatley has agreed to direct the sequel to 2018’s The Meg.
Ben Wheatley has just come off directing Rebecca which landed on Netflix recently.
The movie, which stars Armie Hammer and Lilly James, received mixed reviews.
That said, Ben Wheatley is still one of the most interesting directors working in Hollywood.
Before Rebecca, Wheatley made the likes of Free Fire, Kill List, A Field In England, Sightseers and High Rise.
His horror movies have been incredible (you have to watch Kill List and A Field In England if you haven’t).

As far as The Meg 2 is concerned, it’s expected to see Jason Statham reprise his role from the last movie.
The first film ended up making $530 million at the worldwide box office.
It saw Statham’s character go up against what he believed was one megalond, but it turned out to be two.
Statham portrayed a U.S. Navy diver sent to rescue other divers from a shark attack.
Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the most recent draft of The Meg 2’s script.
They were working off a first draft by Dean Georgaris.
They all shared writing credits for the first movie, which was directed by Jon Turteltaub.
The movie was based on Steve Alten’s 1997 book Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror.
