Tasha Smith has been reported as the replacement for Theresa Randle in the role of Theresa Burnett in Bad Boys 4. Yes, the Bad Boys are back, but unfortunately, it won’t be exactly as you remember it, as one regular cast member who has been in the franchise from the start has been recast.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence return as Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett respectively. The franchise was planned to have a sequel after the successful release of the third film, Bad Boys for Life. This was before Smith’s slapping incident with Chris Rock at the Oscars.
Smith’s actions have resulted in some of his projects being cancelled. A sequel to Netflix’s Bright was already in early development and was cancelled after the incident. For a time, Bad Boys 4 and Smith’s Emancipation for Apple TV+ was presumed to be cancelled. Fortunately, some of his projects have moved forward and it seems that Will Smith’s career has been slowly improving.

Bad Boys has been generally financially successful for Sony Pictures. Even the second film which had unfavourable reviews still had a good run at the box office. It even had a spin-off titled L.A.’s Finest which ran for two seasons starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba.
In a report by Variety, Tasha Smith is taking over the role of Theresa Burnett who is the wife of Martin Lawrence’s Detective Lieutenant Marcus Miles Burnett. The character was portrayed by Theresa Randle for three films since the start of the franchise.
There are no details why they had to recast. So, we are curious but a bit saddened that Randle could not return.
The report had mixed reactions on social media. Some are happy and optimistic about the recasting since the actress could bring something fresh to the franchise. Many are confused because the outlet didn’t really say why she was recast. Others have pointed out that her character is not vital to the franchise and it’s better to not include the character in the next instalment. While a few are wondering why the franchise is still moving forward.
For now, with the absence of Theresa Randle, we can only presume that she was just not available to return for the role. We can speculate for more, but then again, that could get into a deeper rabbit hole.
Other than the Bad Boys franchise, Randle is known for Space Jam (1996), Malcolm X (1992), Beverly Hills Cop III (1994), and Spawn (1996).

Tasha Smith is known for the Tyler Perry films in Why Did I Get Married (2007) and Why Did I Get Married Too? (2010) She also was in The Whole Ten Yards (2004) and Couple’s Retreat (2009). She is also known for the TV series Empire and For Better or Worse. More recently she was in BET Plus’ First Wives Club.
Smith is also an experienced director as she has directed episodes of shows like Bel-Air, Mayor of Kingstown, The Ms. Pat Show, BMF, 9-1-1 and several others.
Tasha Smith will be joined by returning Bad Boys stars like Vanessa Hudgens (Tick, Tick… Boom!), Alexander Ludwig (The Covenant) and Paola Núñez (Resident Evil). Added to the film are Eric Dane (Euphoria) and Ioan Gruffudd (Harrow).
