Babylon First Trailer Released

Babylon First Trailer Released

Babylon is a star-studded ensemble film, and its first trailer has literally just been released, and I cannot wait to watch this movie! The trailer is pretty insane, and it seems to be revelling in the depravity that was rife in Hollywood during the 1920s. Babylon is written and directed by the Academy-Award-winning director, Damien Chazell.

The movie features some of Hollywood’s biggest names, such as Brad Pitt (Bullet Train and Fight Club), and Margot Robbie (The Suicide Squad, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood). Robbie is probably most well known for bringing Harley Quinn to life in the DCEU. She’s brilliant in the role, and it looks like she’s also going to be pretty unhinged in this upcoming movie. I remember first watching her in About Time, and I thought she was great in that movie. She then starred in The Wolf Of Wall Street, which she was also terrific in.

Another star in this movie is Te Prometo Anarquía’s Diego Calva. Pitt, Robbie and Calva are the film’s main stars. However, there are some other pretty big names in this movie’s cast. Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire, Red Hot Chili Peppers musician Flea, Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins’ Samara Weaving, and Don’t Worry Darling’s Olivia Wilde are also in the film.

The movie’s trailer kicks off with Margot Robbie and Diego Calva’s characters doing drugs together and discussing how they want their lives to be. They are obviously talking about their Hollywood movie careers, and they both want to be big! We then see a selection of pretty insane party scenes and some rather amusing scenes with Brad Pitt. One of the lines from the trailer that I really loved was when Brad Pitt’s character says: “When I first moved to L.A., signs on all the doors said: ‘No actors or dogs allowed,’ I changed that.”

Damien Chazelle makes another movie about movies

Damien Chazelle seems to love making movies about movies. A lot of his movies have been about Hollywood, and Babylon is yet another one. However, First Man was a bit different, but it didn’t do that well with audiences or critics. His first movie, Whiplash, is still my favourite of his films.

Damien Chazelle wasn’t sure he could make a movie like Babylon when he came up with the idea 15 years ago. However, the huge success of La La Land made the movie possible. Moreover, First Man reassured him that he could pull off the giant spectacle necessary to bring Babylon to life.

“It was really a wild West period for these people, this gallery of characters, as they rise and fall, rise, fall, rise again, fall again,” Chazelle told Vanity Fair. “The thing that they’re building is springing back on them and chewing them up.”

Babylon seems like it’s going to be an insane movie!

According to Vanity Fair, the movie “features a cast of (mostly fictional) characters whose dreams of fame and success rest on navigating a perilous town.” It has the visual extravagance of something like La La Land, which in itself felt like it owed a debt to Baz Luhrmann, whose hyper-stylized and meticulously-designed films like Moulin Rouge and Elvis tend to focus less on story and more on tone and style.

The film stars Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Diego Calva, Jean Smart, Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, P.J. Byrne, Lukas Haas, Olivia Hamilton, Tobey Maguire, Max Minghella, Rory Scovel, Katherine Waterston, Flea, Jeff Garlin, Eric Roberts, Ethan Suplee, Samara Weaving, and Olivia Wilde.

Babylon will be in UK cinemas on January 20th 2023.
