Fans of the show have been patiently waiting for any news about a potential Archive 81 Season 2, and we can reveal exclusively to you that Netflix is going ahead with it.

This news was revealed to us by a source close to the project who wished to remain anonymous. Here’s what they had to say about Archive 81 Season 2 being renewed by Netflix:

We are working on a second season, but there are a few final details to sort out before the official confirmation from Netflix.

This is the closest thing so far that we’ve got to a confirmation that Archive 81 Season 2 is happening over at Netflix.

The show was produced by James Wan and is based on an incredible podcast of the same name.

The podcast now has three seasons, each season of the show being a different story, but which some of the same characters.

It’s a really interesting podcast and you should listen to it if you haven’t already.

As for the Netflix show, they changed the story quite a bit from the one you might have listened to in the podcast of the same name.

That said, James Wan and his team managed to keep the same strange vibe and it really made for an incredible show, full of intrigue and horror.

Wan really is the king of horror. But, he’s not the person who should get all the credit for Archive 81.

Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine is the real brain being this operation. A lot of the credit has to go to her.

She recently spoke to Variety about what could happen in the second season of Archive 81.

Beware: There are spoilers about how Archive 81 Season 1 ends in the quotes below.

[Dan is] in the real ’90s, and the clue for that is that it does not have the particulates floating around there. He’s in 1994. And the question we’re asking is, we saw people disappear into The Otherworld in different time periods, right? So what does that mean? It means there’s little holes, little poke, poke — little entry and exit points. And that people have gotten kind of mixed up in there trying to exit, and maybe didn’t exit through the right door.

She also made comments about what role Samuel could play in Season 2:

Samuel is still very much part of the story. And I think Season 2 is, where is Samuel? Where is he? And I think that that is a very exciting branch of our story that we definitely know what we’re doing with.

As for when the second season of this hit new Netflix horror show could land on the streaming platform, we would estimate that it should be made available towards the beginning of 2023.

The date we’ve heard is January 2023. However, that date is not set in stone as of yet as there are a lot of variables to contend with first.

Archive 81 stars Mamoudou Athie and Dina Shihabi in the leading roles. I would expect them to return for Season 2.
