Puss in Boots star Antonio Banderas has been reported to have been offered the role of Galactus for the MCU.
Ever since the announcement back in 2019 that Fantastic Four is being planned for Marvel Phase Six of films, many fans got excited about the upcoming film.
When Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was shown in 2022, people saw the first MCU iteration of Reed Richards, the leader of the Fantastic Four, being played by John Krasinski. After this, many wondered if the actor would be reprising his role in the upcoming film.
With the film now already in pre-production and casting, many are wondering who’s who in the upcoming movie. But another critical factor is who is going to be the main villain. Earlier this month, it was reported that Galactus and Silver Surfer could be showing up, which adds another question, who will be portraying them? Which some have already suspected earlier.
Antonio Banderas Could Play Galactus In The MCU

In a report by Giant Freakin Robot, Antonio Banderas was said to have been offered the role of Galactus in the MCU. The actor has a long history in iconic films. Interview with the Vampire, Desperado, The Mask of Zorro, Shrek and many more. His appearance in any film has a kind of gravitas when he shows up.
So, it’s no wonder why Antonio Banderas could have been offered the role. But I do have to admit that he’s not the first person I’d think of when casting Galactus. Then again, Galactus doesn’t really live anywhere near Earth, so it doesn’t really matter who takes on the role.
GFR’s report also indicates that the actor has not signed up for it yet. So, in other words, the role could still end up with another actor. For now, it’s pretty much up in the air.
No one is even sure how Marvel Studios plans to show Galactus, except for the people involved in the film, and possibly even Ant-Man director Peyton Reed since he said that he had seen concept art for the upcoming film, which is going to be directed by Matt Shakman. The comics always have portrayed him as a giant bigger than planets, but he looks very human.
The last time we saw Galactus represented in the film was back in 2007 with Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. While Silver Surfer looked amazing, Galactus was a bit lacking. The Great Devourer, as he is also called, was shown in the film as a big great space cloud. In other words, it was a great disappointment to any Marvel fan.
Although space giants are not new to the MCU this time around, we have been slowly adapted to seeing large unbelievably huge human-like beings in the Marvel Universe. We’ve seen the skull of a celestial in Guardians of the Galaxy, we’ve seen a giant brain of Ego, and we’ve also seen the celestials in the Eternals.
Seeing Galactus on screen is something I am curious to see, and maybe, it’s a possibility that Marvel would go for a more comic book-accurate look. Imagine that with Antonio Banderas as the face of Galactus. So far, many of what they have done have been as close to the comics as I can think of, except maybe for the Eternals.

Talks about casting have been around ever since Disney was able to buy 20th Century Fox.
The acquisition, which was completed back in March 2019, brought the X-Men and Fantastic Four back to Marvel. This, in turn, has made people wonder what will happen with the Marvel films that 20th Century Fox made over the past few years.
Fan casting of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt as Reed and Sue Richards has been a favourite of many. This eventually led to actually getting Krasinski to play as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While many wanted to see him reprise the role in the upcoming film, Marvel never said that he would be Reed Richards of the MCU. At the very least, he was a variant.
Currently, reports say that Adam Driver (Star Wars) is in final talks to be Reed Richards. Also, Mila Kunis (That 70’s Show) has been rumoured to possibly take the role of Sue Storm. Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible) is also said to be in the running for that same role. Mason Gooding (Scream 6) is reported to also being considered as part of the cast for the Fantastic Four, but it’s not clear which one. There is some speculation that Gooding will be Johnny Storm.
Antonio Banderas as Galactus is an interesting choice for sure. I would be happy to see the Puss in Boots actor become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But since he hasn’t signed anything yet, all we can do is wait for more solid information.
What we take from this is that the MCU is preparing for Galactus’ debut in the upcoming Fantastic Four franchise. Marvel’s First Family deserve their time on the big screen spotlight to be done just right. Currently, the Fantastic Four is set to release on February 14, 2025, which will kick off Marvel’s Phase Six of the MCU.
