Ana De Armas Responds To Wonder Woman Fan Casting

Ana de Armas won’t be replacing Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe. With the new DC Universe being reset, many have been ‘wonder’ing if there will be a new Princess Diana of Themyscira.

Some are hoping to see de Armas take the role of the Amazon princess, especially since DC Studios will be making a show titled Paradise Lost which is about the land where Diana grew up in.

At the moment, no one is really sure if Gal Gadot will be keeping the role. Many questioned her future in DC, especially after the cancellation of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3.

For now, DC Studios head James Gunn has confirmed that both Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are out of the new DCU. But the rest, like Ezra Miller, Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa, are currently unknown. Gunn has stated that the new DCU may retain some of the characters from the SnyderVerse, like John Cena’s Peacemaker and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller.

Will Ana De Armas Be The New Wonder Woman?

In a WIRED Autocomplete Interview, de Armas was joined by Chris Evans to promote their latest film, Ghosted. She was asked numerous questions, which included the upcoming John Wick spinoff movie, Knives Out 2, Blade Runner 2049, James Bond and many others.

One of the questions did stand out because de Armas has been fan-cast as Wonder Woman. So, she was asked if she was going to be part of the new DC Universe as Princess Diana. She says:

Well I feel like Gal Gadot is doing a great job, so, you know, I think she should keep doing that.

Gadot has been playing the role of Diana Prince since 2016 in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. She’s had five appearances so far in the DCEU, or SnyderVerse as some call it, including Shazam! Fury of the Gods. This doesn’t count Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Peacemaker.

I’m a fan of Ana de Armas, and I enjoy seeing her more recent films. I am excited to see her in her new film Ghosted and the John Wick spin-off Ballerina.

It’s a little hard for me to see her as the Amazon warrior princess though. That is, if we consider how we are used to seeing Diana Prince now.

Gal Gadot’s service in the Israel Defense Force for two years is what impressed me the most. It’s a testament to her ability to convincingly portray a badass without hesitation. Plus, the fact that she has the height for it. Wonder Woman is known now to be taller than most superheroes.

Then again, if James Gunn were going for the look of the Golden Age of DC Comics for the new DC Universe, de Armas’ height won’t be that much of an issue. With that said, since de Armas has been doing a lot of action now, I do believe that she can pull it off as the Amazon Princess.

The superhero’s height apparently keeps on getting taller for some reason. Back in 1941, she was 5’8”. In the ’90s she was 5’11”. In 2011 she was officially indicated as 6’. More recently, she has been listed as 6’3”. I’m not so sure if her high heels count, though. Or that maybe she is still growing?
