It’s been revealed that Amber Heard’s screen time as Mera in DC Studios’ Aquaman 2 (Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom) has been significantly reduced, which was to be expected. Syl Abdul revealed this in a recent live he did on his YouTube channel.

So, according to Syl Abdul, Amber Heard will still be in the movie, but she won’t be in the film for very long. There had been reports that there would be more of Heard’s Mera in the movie after the reshoots. However, Syl has now revealed that Warner Bros Discovery has decided to minimize her role in the movie.
This is all because the company is legally obliged to respect the actor’s original contract. Otherwise, they could find themselves in serious legal trouble. Therefore, they’ve decided to stick with Heard because it would have been too expensive to recast the role, and there would have been too many legal issues regarding the actress’ contract.

Moreover, Syl also revealed that after the release of Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, Amber Heard will no longer have a contract with DC Studios. It seems highly unlikely that the studio will not recall her to play the character again.
They might still decide to recast Mera in the future. However, Syl stated it’s “very unlikely” that Heard will be in a future DC Studios movie. Syl then added that Warner Bros Discovery will “fulfil the contract and move on” from Heard, which I think is the best way forward for everybody.

So, here’s how I see this whole situation. I think Warner Bros Discovery is desperate to get rid of Heard following the Johnny Depp defamation case. They have honoured her contract, cut her role down and won’t be working with her again, and they might opt to recast the role. This comes after it was revealed that Warners was thinking of recasting the role before they started shooting Aquaman 2, and they even looked at other actors for the role, such as Emilia Clarke.
However, it was revealed by DC Films’ former President, Walter Hamada, they never actively screen-tested any other actors for the role before the sequel went into production.
Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom is slated to be released in cinemas in the United States and the United Kingdom on December 25th, 2023. So, it going to be released on Christmas day!
