The Ahsoka series is going to be released on Disney Plus later this year, and we’ve been informed that Ahsoka Season 2 is already in the works for the streaming platform. This news comes after there was a little bit of confusion as to whether there would be more seasons of the show or whether it would be a limited series.
Originally, Lucasfilm billed the series as a ‘limited series’ like their Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book Of Boba Fett shows. However, it seems as though Lucasfilm’s plans have changed with this series focused on Ahsoka Tano.
Tano will be played by Rosario Dawson, who first played the iconic Star Wars character in The Mandalorian Season 2 and then again in The Book Of Boba Fett. We were previously informed that this new Ahsoka show would introduce Grand Admiral Thrawn to the live-action Star Wars universe.
We were also informed that Lucasfilm had hired Lars Mikkelsen to play the role in live-action. He voiced the character in the Star Wars Rebels series. It seems as though Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau also wanted Mikkelsen to play the role in live-action, which hasn’t always happened with the Star Wars animated characters that have been brought into these live-action Disney Plus shows.
Case in point, Rosario Dawson didn’t voice Ahsoka Tano in the animated Star Wars shows. Ashley Eckstein voiced the character in the animated shows, and there were calls to have her play the role in the live-action.

However, other actors who voiced characters in the animated shows did get to play them in live-action. An example of this is Katee Sackhoff, who got to voice Bo-Katan in the animated shows and was then brought into The Mandalorian Season 2 to play the character in live-action.
Looks like Lucasfilm is going to do the same thing with Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn. Anyway, all of this is to point out that it’s clear that Lucasfilm has bigger plans for the Ahsoka Tano series and Thrawn and Ezra Bridger’s story arcs which will play an essential part in the Ahsoka series. Incidentally, it was revealed that Eman Esfandi had been cast to play Ezra in live-action.
Anyway, back to the news that Ahsoka Season 2 is already in the works. There were already reports that Disney might be looking at making a second season of the series. When these reports were making their way around the Internet, we wanted to get more confirmation.
So, we reached out to Disney and Lucasfilm for comment, and we still haven’t heard back. However, we also reached out to a source with very close ties to both Disney and Lucasfilm, and they were able to confirm that a second season is already in the works.
They added that “Ahsoka is going to be around for quite some time”, which sounds as though Lucasfilm has a lot of faith in the character, the series and Rosario Dawson’s performance as the show’s lead.
Disney kind of leaked that Ahsoka Season 2 was happening

On February 8th, Disney’s first-quarter earnings report for 2023 gave us our first look at what the year has in store for its beloved franchises and intellectual properties. There was a pretty interesting nugget of information buried in all of the paperwork that Disney released, which suggested that the Ahsoka series isn’t going to be a ‘one-and-done’ offering.
In fact, upon closer inspection, ‘(Season 1)’ appears next to the series’ name, which suggests that there will be more seasons to come after the first one, meaning that Ahsoka Season 2 is coming
It was this information that got me to reach out to Disney, Lucasfilm and our sources to try and confirm whether a second season was in the works or not. Moreover, neither Skeleton Crew nor Secret Invasion has the ‘(Season 1)’ denotation, which suggests that Disney might be looking at these two shows as ‘limited series’.
When could Ahsoka Season 1 be released on Disney Plus?

Now, onto when the first season of Ahsoka could be released. Well, we might have some news to share with you on that front. During an interview on TODAY with Hoda and Jenna, Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson revealed when the series would likely be released on the streaming platform.
Dawson explained that the show is “probably going to come out in the Fall,” following the release of Haunted Mansion. Here’s what she had to say on the matter:
‘Ahsoka’, that’s going to probably come out in the Fall. We’re going to have ‘Haunted Mansion’ coming out in August [this has been recently pushed to up to late July] first.
Haunted Mansion is set to release on July 28th in the United States, so a release date for Ahsoka Season 1 between September and November seems most likely at this point.
