It’s being reported that three new Star Wars movies are going to be announced at Star Wars Celebration in London this weekend. This news shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
However, it has to be said that Lucasfilm and its President, Kathleen Kennedy, don’t have the best track record when it comes to announcing Star Wars movies and actually going ahead and making them.
It’s already been revealed that the Kevin Feige Star Wars movie and Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron film that were announced back in 2020 at the Disney Investors’ Day Presentation have both been axed.
We recently reported that Lucasfilm has also pulled the plug on the Rian Johnson Star Wars trilogy. However, we have recently been hearing rumours that Johnson might be working on another Star Wars-related project for Lucasfilm. Not the promised trilogy, but something else.
The last I heard, he could be making a standalone Star Wars film or a TV series. We’re going to have to wait for more information on that one.

So, according to Jeff Sneider over at The Hot Mic podcast, Lucasfilm is going to announce three new Star Wars movies at this weekend’s Star Wars Celebration event in London. Here’s what Sneider had to say on this matter:
Here’s what I’m hearing, this is the big rumour this week (…) they are hearing, and this shouldn’t be a gigantic surprise, I told you last week that there are going to be three Star Wars movies that are announced tomorrow [at Star Wars Celebration]. One is going to be SOC’s [Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy] movie, the one that [Damon] Lindelof left, and then there’s two others.
Sneider then added that one of the movies that will be announced at this weekend’s Star Wars Celebration is going to be one which will be directed by Dave Filoni. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:
We don’t really have really any details… Well, I guess maybe one is Taika Waititi’s if they officially do that, but this other one that I keep hearing, and this is grain of salt, but I hear that Dave Filoni is going to get one of the three movies. Dave Filoni is going to be, I guess directing.
What’s going to happen at Lucasfilm?

So, what does this all mean? Well, it seems as though they are planning new Star Wars movies over at Lucasfilm. However, we’re still not entirely sure which films are going to go into production first.
The Taika Waititi film was announced back in 2020 at the same Disney Investors’ Day presentation where Feige and Jenkins Star Wars movies were announced. The last we’ve heard about that project is that Waititi wants to star in it as well as write and direct the picture.
The other Star Wars movie looks set to be the one that’s reportedly going to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and written by Peaky Blinders creator, Steven Knight. That picture was originally being written by Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson.
However, they ended up leaving the project pretty recently and have been replaced by Steven Knight, who’s now writing the movie. It’s all a bit of a mess, and I think that Lucasfilm really needs to sort things out quickly.
