Suicide Squad 2: Michael Rooker Set To Play King Shark In James Gunn’s DC Comics Movie

Suicide Squad 2 may have just added another big name to its cast as Michael Rooker is in talks to join the James Gunn DC Comics project potentially to play King Shark.

James Gunn’s Suicide Squad 2 is starting to look very interesting indeed as the film has reportedly added yet another huge star to its already impressive cast.

A few weeks back it was revealed that Idris Elba was going to join the film, and it was first suggested that he was going to replace Will Smith as Deadshot.

However, those rumours were quickly brushed aside as it was revealed the British actor would, in fact, be playing an undisclosed role which wasn’t Deadshot.

It does seem as though DC and Warner Bros. are keen to stay in Mr. Smith’s good-books and they’ve given themselves the option to bring his version of Deadshot back for another film should Gunn’s sequel succeed.

As for Rooker, it’s been reported by The Wrap that he’ll be playing King Shark in Suicide Squad 2, which is very interesting casting.

It had been rumoured that Rooker’s Guardians of the Galaxy co-star, Dave
Bautista, would be playing King Shark. Yet, that looks like it won’t happen.

As of yet, nothing’s been officially confirmed, yet fans of the comics and of Rooker’s will be hoping that he does get to bring the character to life of the big screen.

Fans of The CW series, The Flash, will be familiar with King Shark, yet the character has gone through many different iterations in the comics.

He was at one point, working alongside Aquaman, and then went on to be a member of the villainous organisation known as the Secret Six.

King Shark in the comics differs somewhat to the one seen in The Flash in the sense that he is as intelligent as a human and can speak normally.

In the CW series, King Shark is pretty much more shark than human and doesn’t speak at all, until he’s briefly turned back into a human, only to chose to become King Shark again in order to save Star City from the super-intelligent gorilla, Gorilla Grodd.

If Rooker is to sign on the dotted line, he’ll join a cast which includes Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and, of course, Idris Elba. David Dastmalchian will take on the role of Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior will play Ratcatcher, and John Cena is also said to be in talks for a role.

Not much is known about the film’s plot, but it’s said to, “follow the team on a mission to the Middle East to stop Onslaught and infiltrate their headquarters in Qurac. This seems like a fitting type of story for the ‘Suicide Squad’ that will keep the stakes lower compared to the first film.”

Suicide Squad 2 is currently set for release on August 6th, 2021.
