Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is almost upon us and there are rumours suggesting that J.J. Abrams’ upcoming flick might feature a reunion scene between Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa and Han Solo.
Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (yeah, I’m not so keen on the name either) isn’t that far off. We’re coming to the very end of this most recent Star Wars trilogy and it seems, at least by the film’s title, that it’ll all be about the Skywalker lineage.
I realise that Star Wars has thus far been about the Skywalker family, but one reason why I loved Star Wars: The Last Jedi so much was because it took a step away from that. Rian Johnson’s film was more concentrated on moving Star Wars forward and less worried about what happened in the past or answering all of the question posed in J.J. Abrams’ mystery box of a Star Wars film.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Star Wars: The Force Awakens as much as the next guy, but nobody can deny that the film was one of the most fan-servicey movies ever made. Abrams literally remade the Death Star, but this time it was a planet as opposed to a moon-shaped space ship.
Anyway, it seems, according to MakingStarWars.net at least, that Abrams will really tap into the past in The Rise Of Skywalker by having a reunion scene between Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford).
Now, I have to remind everybody to take anything that MakingStarWars reports with a BIG pinch of salt. They have a tendency of telling some rather tall tales when it comes to Star Wars movies, but they’ve also been proven to be right on occasion.
According to the Star Wars fan site, Luke, Leia and Han will all be involved in a flashback scene, which will see the old gang back together, but as we remember them from the original films.
We already know that Leia will be in the film thanks to some old footage they’ll repurpose and it seems like, if this rumour is true, they’ll use a little bit of CGI wizardry to make her, and her fellow Star Wars adventurers, young again for this flashback scene.
The article goes on to suggest that Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, will be used as a stand-in for her mother. They did the same thing for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and it worked to a certain extent.
That said, there was an uncanny valley element to Rogue One’s version of Leia. It’s always in the eyes which just don’t seem right.
The Rise of Skywalker will see the likes of Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson), Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo), Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong’o), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) and Lieutenant Connix (Billie Lourd) all return to the Star Wars saga.
Carrie Fisher will also be returning as General Leia Organa in the film, through the use of archival footage.
They all be joined by new cast members including Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, Matt Smith, and Dominic Monaghan.
Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is set to hit UK cinemas on December 19th, 2019.
