The Men In Black reboot might very well be happening with Straight Outta Compton’s director, F. Gary Gray in line to direct the picture.
The idea of rebooting the Men In Black franchise has been on the cards at Sony Pictures for quite some time now. There was an idea to do Men In Black–21 Jump Street crossover movie for a while, but those plans were scrapped. I’m not sure what they would have called that movie. 21 Men In Black On Jump Street…? 21 Black Men Can’t Jump… Street… I don’t know. I’m sure you could come up with better names for that one. But it’s never going to happen so it would end up being a complete waste of time.
Anyway, according to Deadline, Sony Pictures is looking at Straight Outta Compton director, F. Gary Gray, to helm a Men In Black reboot. Gray has already proven that he knows how to make a big blockbuster movie. His last film, The Fast & Furious 8 (otherwise known as The Fates of the Furious), did well at the box office and fans seemed to like it. It showed that he can direct big action set pieces and that would most certainly come in handy when making a Men in Black movie.
If he decides to take on the project, he’ll be working off a script from Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. This Men In Black movie is said to stick to the same tone of the original movies just with a new cast. So this means no return for Tommy Lee Jones or Will Smith, although I wouldn’t be surprised to see Smith make some sort of cameo.
